Design Projects

Level I

These are all of the design projects that I worked on in level I of the Integrated Biomedical Engineering and Health Science program at McMaster University. These projects involved using CAD, coding in python, and even working with a team at the Hamilton General Hospital.

Hip Implant

For design project, I worked with a team to create and design a hip implant for an assigned patient. We first had to diagnose why they needed a hip-implant, and then deign an implant tailored to the patients needs.

Independent Research Summary

This document is a write up on the new advancements in joint replacement surgery. It goes into a new robotic system used in knee replacement surgery.

Sanitation Container

Design project 2 I was working with a new team divide into two sub-teams, coding team and the CAD team. I was assigned to the CAD team where I worked to design a container that would effectively sanitize an assigned surgical instrument. It was meant to be creative as well as be able to be 3D printed in under 3 hours.

Neck Positioning Device

In this design project, my team was assigned with creating either a wearable personal healthcare device or to create a device to help with simple every day for people with a medical problem. My team decided to create a personal monitoring device that will aid with neck posture and strain. With today's society fueled by the pandemic heading towards a virtual future, we believe that neck posture and strain will become more prevalent. I was assigned to the coding sub-team tasked with coding the device's components to let the user know if they are putting strain on their neck.

Preoperative Medications Use System

Design Project 4

In this design project, my team was assigned to the neuro-spinal team lead by Eric Romeril to revised and the current preoperative medication system to implement new technology. The new system they would be working with is EPIC software for patient documentation combined with Omnicell for medication storage. My team met  and talked to some of the neuro-spinal team at the Hamilton General about the current system they use for medication and patient documentation. We then determined where the new systems could benefit the hospital. This project concluded with a flow chart my team created to help the hospital with the implementation of the new systems.
